What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy utilizes movement, exercise and various hands-on techniques and modalities to help patients live better lives.

What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy is designed to help patients who have difficulty using their arms and hands, completing daily activities, or who require an adaptive device or need dynamic or static splinting.

What is speech therapy?
Speech therapy helps those with voice, communication, cognition or swallowing problems work to understand and/or improve their abilities.

What are modalities?
Our physical therapists employ a variety of treatment modalities to help strengthen, relax and heal muscles, including hot and cold packs, ultrasound, TENS units (electronic muscle stimulator) and Iontophoresis (introduction of ions of soluable salts into the body by means of electric current).

What should I wear to my appointment?
Patients are typically advised to wear comfortable clothing to physical therapy.

What should I bring to my first physical therapy visit?
First-time patients will need an insurance card and prescription from their doctor, as well as any type of brace, splint or crutches they may be using. Patients may also bring operative reports, MRI or x-ray results, but they are not necessary.

How long is each session?
Sessions are usually 30–60 minutes long.

How often should I attend?
Frequency of treatment is determined on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with diagnosis, physician's plan of care and insurance coverage.

Do I need to perform my exercises at home?
Once a patient is seen for an evaluation, he/she may be given an exercise program to follow at home.

Do I need a referral to come to physical therapy?
Patients should contact their insurance company to determine if they need a referral before making an appointment.

Will my insurance cover therapy?
Most insurance companies do cover these services, but coverage varies.
